Updating Your Add-ons and Repositories in Kodi

Updating Add-ons / Repositories

Updating your list of Add-ons and Repositories is the best way to ensure Kodi is functioning properly. Rather than checking, many newcomers think it’s better to just Uninstall the Add-on/Repo and reinstall it again. Totally unnecessary for many reasons. Consider this, if your vehicle runs out of fuel, would you replace it with another of the same make and model ? Of course not, you would find a way to fill it with fuel and carry on.

Therefore, updating the Add-ons/Repos is like refueling your vehicle. This is another topic in our continuing effort to help the newcomers/beginners to the world of Kodi. You can view many more Blogs on a wide assortment of helpful topics here at Ares-Project Blog.

Updating Repositories

Rather than send an update for a single add-on that may be in a repo, the Dev will send one for the entire repo. It faster, more convenient and above all it saves time. Yet how do you know if your repo is up to date? Here are two examples for you to try:

updating

Lets begin by selecting Add-ons on the main Home Page of Kodi. If using a Build, select System from the main menu bar.

updating

Next step, click on the Open Box Icon in the top left corner. For Builds, select System, Add-ons then Install from repositories.

updating

As shown in Photo A, click on Install from repository OR a quick shortcut is to select Install from repository as indicated in Photo B. This is located along the top row when in the main Home page of Kodi. This version of Krypton is a Fork called Kato-MC for Windows.

How to Update a Repo

updating

Select the Repo you wish to check from the list provided. I randomly chose the Looking Glass repository.

updating

To open Context menu as shown above:
  • With the cursor hovering over the selected repo, right click on the mouse.

  • or Use the C key if you have a keyboard.

  • Select the button with three (3) lines on the remote

  • Select Information to continue.

updating

Once open, look for Update, as shown above and select for the next step. Great work so far !

updating

Since there is only one update available, it’s rather easy to decide. However, there are some repos / add-ons that may show more than One (1) update, which do I chose you ask? Because the most recent update available will always be listed at the very top, choose the First one.

Confirmation Notification

updating

After selecting the latest update, you will be returned to the previous page and there will be a Notification to confirm the Update is completed. This will normally appear in the top right corner as shown above.

The Photo above is an example of two other repos, Beau B repository and Firestickplusman Add-ons updating. With the confirmation notification indicating it’s completion in the top right corner. Congratulations ! you have just updated a repo, well done.

How to Update an Add-on

updating

First of all, your best bet to see if there are any Add-ons that need updating is to take a look at the top row in the Home page. Select Available updates as shown above. If there any, select Update now to continue. If using a Build, select System, Add-ons, there will be a notification there, click to continue.

But how can you be sure these updates are even occurring. Devs who have created a Build will ensure that Auto Updating is enabled and coded into their build. Using using a clean version of Kodi, clean meaning no Build installed may occasionally need to be checked manually. Lets show you how to check if auto updating is enabled.

Auto Update Check

updating

Select the Cog Icon in the Home Page to access System.

updating

Scroll to the right and select System settings.

updating

Once you have entered System settings, highlight Add-ons by hovering the cursor on it. Then scroll up Updates, take note of the status: Notify, but don’t install updates. If you see Install updates automatically, there is no need to continue. But I changed it for this article to show what needs to be done. Click anywhere along that line to continue.

updates

Finally, the last step is to select Install updates automatically. Done!  Congratulations, you have just set your version of Kodi to auto update all incoming updates for add-ons and repos.

In Conclusion

A few simple steps to maintain Kodi will ensure your add-ons and repos are in working order allowing you to enjoy streaming. These steps are much easier and practical than uninstalling add-ons etc. The uninstall process should be kept to removing unwanted, dead or malicious add-ons only.

Click Here: Kodi Add-on by SkyDarks

Click Here is one of the newest Fork and it has a very clever name.  Invoking you to just “click here” to get all the movies and tv shows you could ever want.  This add-on doesn’t have any of the “extras” that some of the other forks have; however, it does work nicely.  Click Here has all the sames features you enjoyed in Covenant including the ability to add Trakt and Debrid accounts.  I like that the developer Swiper kept it close to the original and just changed up some artwork. WiFi Settings & Tweaks for Kodi

I thought I’d cover the one of the most talked about issues in the world of streaming and thats WiFi and how to get the best out of it, practical measures and not some of the voodoo you read on some forums! What is WIFi? The term Wi-Fi refers specifically to the IEEE 802.11 set of standards for wireless networks. Several different standards are designated by a letter suffix on the 802.11, such as in 802.11g or 802.11n. In general all of the 802.11 standards operate on either a 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio frequency. 5GHz has much greater speed capability but a reduced range; generally speaking the lower a frequency the further it will travel, so don’t expect miracles if you switch to 5GHz. A key thing to note here is that if ANY device uses the older “b” standard then ALL devices *could* have their speed reduced to 11mbps on “g” networks, depending on your router. This really applies to older equipment or cheap equipment with old parts used in it *cough* t...

How to Stream Zgemma to Kodi

If you have one of zgemma or Vu (enigma based) device you may not be aware that you can access and control your device from Kodi. This is pretty simple and quick to setup and will open up a whole bunch of options for you eg. watch your recordings on any device with Kodi (on the same network), set recordings on your receiver from any device running Kodi on your home network ( this can also be dome remotely and I will cover this in another blog), check on what recordings are set and even delete them if needed. There is a bit of jumping around in this tutorial as I have to cover a few different scenarios, I hope this doesn’t make it confusing, but feel free to leave comments. I will have a section created on Ares Forum for more support if its needed. Setup Process Set Fixed IP on zGemma Check OpenWebIf is installed and set correctly. Make a Custom Favourites List (optional) Add PVR to Kodi Configure PVR Receiver Setup The first step is to give the receiver device a fixed IP address, ...

Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard! Archive Logins Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so) Android Apps A few additional apps have been added...

Ares Wizard Install Guide (July 14th)

A lot of testing has been going on behind the scenes to bring you a new, improved  Ares Wizard. New, bigger, faster servers, rewritten code, new build hosts, new zip hosts, its been  complete rebuild for the ground up. Its important to note that the Ares Wizard can run without its servers (they may go down in the future), but it then loses some of its functions, such as Add on & repository installs, and only 200 builds to choose from; it does retain all its maintenance and tweaking functions in this mode, so still very useful.  ——————————————————— This add on is “unofficial” and therefore not supported by Kodi TV or XBMC foundation, please do not ask on their forums for help, goto ares-project.uk for further support. ——————————————————...
