How to Enable and Configure Trakt.TV in Kodi

What is Trakt.TV

“Trakt is a platform that does many things, but primarily keeps track of TV shows and movies you watch. It integrates with your media center or home theater PC to enable scrobbling, so everything is automatic. Some people like to check in from their phone, so we enable that too.”
The Trakt add-on for Kodi allows you to automatically scrobble all content you are watching to Trakt.tv. You can keep a comprehensive history of everything you’ve watched.

Install and Authorizing Trakt

Before using Trakt.TV it must be installed. Many builds have Trakt already installed. If you have such a build, you can skip down to the next portion of this article. Lets begin. Open Kodi and select System> Add-on> Install from repository. Scroll down and Select Kodi Add-on repository> Program Add-ons. The is list lengthy, so scroll to almost the bottom and select Trakt. Click to Install, wait for Add-on enabled notification.

trakt

Now that Trakt is installed in Kodi, follow the procedure below to Configure.  You’ll notice a pop up screen asking you proceed to their web site to Authorize right away. There will be an option to “Remind me later” or “No Thanks”. Selecting No Thanks will remove the pop up and take you back to the add-on settings.
  • Select Configure then click on Exclusions. Enable Exclude Live TV as shown in Photo B. Excluding Live TV is impossible to “Scrobble” for obvious reasons !

  • Scroll back General and select ” How do I authorize the trakt add-on to access my trakt-tv account ?”

Authorizing

Configuring

trakt

Now that Trakt is enabled in Kodi, the next few steps will show you how to configure the add-on to suit your tastes. Open the add-on and go to Settings > Configuration. The following are just recommendations. The choice is entirely up to you and your needs. Lets begin with Photo A.
Scrobbling

Once in Configuation, move to Scrobbling and Select the first 4 settings to enable:
  • Scrobble Movies

  • Scrobble TV show episodes

  • Show notification on scrobble

  • Fallback to Title/Year matching if necessary

Synchronize

In Photo B there are two categories that need adjusting, Movies and TV Shows. If you have deleted a Movie or a TV Show from your library but wish to keep in your trakt collection, do not enable. (1. and 2.) In Movies, enable the following ;
  • Add new movies to collection

  • Add watched Movies to collection

  • Mark Movies from history as watched in Kodi

In Tv Episodes, select Add new TV episodes to collection. Please do not forget to Select OK when completed to save your settings.

trakt

Here is the current list of known add-ons that have Trakt.TV enabled. Elysium has recently been added to the growing list.

IN CONCLUSION

Users of this add-on have found it extremely easy to use. Accessing a list of your TV Shows or Movies at the touch of a finger is brilliant. However, there have been some privacy concerns recently that should be mentioned here.  As can be seen in its features, Trakt publicly lists what its users are watching. It tracks your TV show and movie activity while actively publishing their stats on their website.

While the points above may be slightly concerning, there are several reasons why you shouldn’t think too much about them. Trakt.tv has been trusted by millions of users and thousands of developers. No reports of trakt abusing this condition in their policies have come about. There are also many ways to protect yourself. Assuming you take the right precautionary measures to protect your privacy, using trakt shouldn’t be an issue. The two ways to protect your privacy include: Set your profile to private. Hide your IP through a VPN.

TV Addons - Crypto Mining Hack

If you have been using Kodi third party addons for any length of time, you cannot have missed the controversy that always seems to surround TV Addons and the antics of its owner, Adam Lackman.  In recent history there have been a number of high profile  repo “hacks” and if you think back a little further, there was the DDOS hidden in the popular Exodus add-on. TV Addons Hack & Virus History Exodus DDOS “bot” So if you dont recall TV Addons hugely popualr Exodus add-on had some code added to it to DDOS attack. This was in response to a clone or fork of the addon that TVA took exception against. This seems rather bizarre given the amount of forks that are flying around now! Here is a link to that article. Exodus Botnet We did remove a lot of the post – but heres some links showing the code and how it was added; Exodus DDOS code Target of DDOS TVA & Indigo Repo Hijacks So lets review the repo hijacks – hotly denied, but who else has a v...

Why Reboot Router: DNS Cache

Why reboot my Router ? How does flushing a DNS cache help resolve some issues, and while you’re at it what’s DNS?  We hope when you are finished with this article you will feel comfortable with a few things.  First off, we hope you feel you had DNS explained in some detail.  Secondly, we hope you understand a little further why it is important to reboot your router.  You would be very surprised with how a simple reboot of your router can fix many of the issues you are having. DNS First, a quick review of what DNS is. DNS is an acronym for the Domain Name System. As you probably already know, every device on a network is identified by an IP (Internet Protocol) address.  However, you and I rarely know or care what the IP addresses are; we use names instead, like “google.com”.  DNS is what maps from names to IP addresses.  When your computer accesses a domain name for the first time, it performs what’s called a DNS request...

Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard! Archive Logins Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so) Android Apps A few additional apps have been added...

Deleting Old non-working URL's from File Manager

Deleting URL’s from File Manager We have all used the File Manager in Kodi to install different URL’s for various links to Repositories or Add-ons.  Links become redundant for a number or reasons; however, the most common reason is abandonment by the developer.  A perfect example is the TVA Fusion link, it became invalid and the link will no longer connect. Why remove the url links ? Keeping these URL links installed in File Manager is harmless, but keeping the file manager uncluttered is never a bad habit.  Some of you may have typed the wrong url address by mistake.  Instead of removing it right away, you just re-type the correct url address.  I know how easy that is having done that myself on occasion.  As a result, you have many duplicate sources in your File Manager section. The removal method is exactly the same for Jarvis & Krypton.  Yet, I have combined photo examples for both just so you can follow along.  While I was...

Ares Wizard for Kodi - Updated .69 ( new sources added)

You may well have heard of the legal threats made to the Ares Project (more on this in another article) however, in the meantime we have edited the “contentious” content to avoid further legal harrasment. The Ares Wizard no longer has links to builds or add-ons. It still has one of the best Kodi video cache tools (the first in the scene to do this dynamically per device), and the best backup and restore tool. You can backup any build for safe keeping,  ut you can also restore ANY build zip using Ares restore option – it will auto detect the any full build restores (eg the skin settings) and perform a force close to ensure a proper and full restore. The Wizard must be a huge install? Just to reassure users of the Ares Wizard – its a very light install – the zip 2.5 megabytes and fully installed with all graphics etc is a mere 4.5 megabytes. Yes we know trolls from other jealous wizards/builds are claiming it adds 400Mb to installs (but they have no proo...
