Kodi Dlna Client and Server Setup for Krypton

What is Dlna ?

WHAT IS DLNA?
The term DLNA stands for “Digital Living Network Alliance”. It is the industry standard for sharing network data combined with “Universal Plug and Play Audio Visual(UPnP). This option can be used to share your media libraries from one device to another. If you have a PC or Kodi Box for your Tv, you can share its media contents.  Other Smart TVs, Game Consoles, Phones, etc. to name a few. It is recommended that you backup Kodi before continuing in case you wish to restore your Kodi settings at a later date.
A Kodi UPnP server/media can stream its content to other devices on the same network by using UPnP and DLNA protocols.

HOW TO ENABLE DLNA ON KODI?

DlnaFor this article, I used a clean version of Krypton 17.6. If you are using a Build, this is typically found by selecting System, then System again. Lets begin:
  1. After opening Kodi, select the Cog Icon found in the top left corner.

  2. Then Select Service Settings top row far right in Systems as shown in the photo above.

Dlna
  1.  In the next window, scroll down to UPnP / DLNA

  2.  Move the Cursor over and up to “Share my libraries” and Click.

Dlna

Finally, click Share my Libraries from the DLNA Settings. When this is enabled, Announce Library Update will also Switch On automatically. ( as shown above)
This is the complete procedure to enable DLNA from your Kodi, and now you are ready to stream to your receiving device.

HOW TO USE KODI DLNA STREAM?

Once you enable DLNA Kodi service then simply open up the DLNA application on your receiving device. Your Kodi system should be visible. It can navigate through the media library folders. Then click on a movie or music file to launch. You have now completed the Kodi media server setup process. Here’s a List of some of the best software that will help you use this option :
  • PLAY ON (for Windows)
Play On is a DLNA media server and browser for your Windows Pc. It allows online media sources such as Netflix and Hulu and also supports local content. It’s available only on Windows it is the sad part of this software.

UMS is a DLNA server that focuses on stability and File compatibility. It is an Open source and entirely free software. But it uses only in JAVA.
Features: Web Interface and Satellite Integration.

All of the above can be found thru the usual Search Engines available online.

IN CONCLUSION

Using this option will offer you an opportunity to view your content thru your Kodi to other devices located elsewhere in your home. If you have a rather extensive Music or Movie collection as I do, this is another option to listen or view those files on another device. Free Kodi on iOS No Jailbreak.

For Non-Jailbreak iOS Devices Installing Kodi on iOS  For all you iOS users it seems the world of free streaming is just that bit more complicated than for the rest of us. Putting Kodi on iOS has never been easy. Unless you are willing to risk an attempt to jailbreak what has probably been your most frivolous purchase this year,  which is only an option for certain version of the iOS operating system and could easily go very wrong unless you are  which is only really an option if you are a more  experienced user who is confident they know what they are doing. It only takes  one wrong move in an attempt to Jailbreak and that shiny new iPhoneX could easily become noting more than ornament. A failed attempt to Jailbreak an iOS in order to gain more control over the content you are are able to download and use on your device will most likely have left any and all warranties or guaranties you may have had with the device null and void as it stated in the terms...

Why Reboot My Router ? How does flushing a DNS cache help resolve some issues, and while you’re at it what is DNS?  “Reboot your router then your device” is a phrase that is often used, yet misunderstood. Most noteworthy is when solving issues with Kodi. The intent of this article is to provide a simpler understanding of why rebooting your Router does make a difference. However, you and I rarely know or care what the IP addresses are; we use names instead, like “google.com”. DNS is what maps from names to IP addresses. When your computer accesses a domain name for the first time, it performs what’s called a DNS request, which boils down to asking “Hey, what’s the IP address for ‘google.com...
