Adding Your Media Files in Kodi Krypton

What Media Files can I view ?

The majority of Kodi users are unaware of the flexibility of Kodi and only know it as a method to use 3rd part add-ons. As a result, the Media Files they own or have collected remain unused. Instead of explaining what Kodi or XBMC as it was originally named, is and how it works, please use this link. Media Files such as Movies/Videos, Photographs and Music can be viewed quite easily in Kodi. For this article, the focus will be on Movies/Videos.

Types of Supported Media Files.

Container formats: AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF, FLV, MKV/MKA (Matroska), QuickTime, MP4, M4A, AAC, NUT, Ogg, OGM, RealMedia RAM/RM/RV/RA/RMVB, 3gp, VIVO, PVA, NUV, NSV, NSA, FLI, FLC, DVR-MS and WTV. Some of these formats may need to be converted. For example, to view MKV files smoothly on Kodi, the best solution is to transcode MKV files to Kodi best compatible H.264 video codec with AAC audio codec. There are many free Converters available to use, use your favorite search engine to see what are best to use.

Due to using a PC, Windows 10 to create the Screenshots for my Blogs, I have my Personal Media Files stored in a separate hard drive. Your screen will obviously not appear the same as shown here. You may be using a usb Flash Drive or a HDD connected to your device. Make sure that is connected and working before continuing. Once you have located the selected path, simply click the destination and then OK. In this case M: was selected.

For obvious reasons, I have removed any personal information from the Photo. Therefore to continue, simply select OK.

Adding your Media Files

M: has now been added as the new path for my Movie/Video Media Files. So far it’s been easier than you thought I’m sure. So to continue, select OK.

media files

Almost done ! In the next screen, you will be asked to Set Content, I have found this is best left as it is. There is no advantage or benefit to make any changes. Select OK.

media files

This last screen will now confirm the path chosen as M:, yours will reflect the path location name you have chosen. Congratulations, you have now added your Personal Movie/Video Media Files to Kodi. Click anywhere in the area that is highlighted to view the files for the new path as shown above.

Here is an example of what to expect when you open the file path. Depending on what format was used to add these to your collection, you will be able to see some of the details concerning the file chosen. In the example above, the Length, Audio Format and Video Resolution are indicated in the bottom right corner.

In Conclusion

Having a clearer understanding what Kodi has to offer will only improve your overall use. Being able to watch saved/stored videos without going online is something many of the new users to Kodi were unaware of. Have any Home Movies of Weddings, Children’s Birthdays or even your favorite Vacation Videos ? All of these can now be watched thru Kodi, the possibilities are endless.  For example, Karaoke ! Kodi Advanced Settings Pt 2

This is the second part of The Advanced Settings XML article, in this follow up post I want to cover a few extra items. Skip Loop Filter Package Folder SIze Remote Delay Remote Repeat Specifcally the first is for Amazons Firestick and reduces the overhead on the GPU by removing some “unseen” frames from the video stream. Skip Loop Filter Click Programs Click Easy Advanced Settings Click Edit Settings Click Audio/video playback settings Click Skiploopfilter Click 8 You can back up to the twice and hit Write XML file Package Folder Size You’ll hear this a lot “purge packages”; so lets explain, packages are the zips Kodi downloads to install your add-ons. Kodi keeps them in case you want to roll back from an upgrade. However, they mostly just use up storage space. They have no connection to buffering, nor speed, nor performance, another often touted myth! We can remove the need to do this monthly clean up by simply setting a fixed size for the fo...

TV Addons - Crypto Mining Hack

If you have been using Kodi third party addons for any length of time, you cannot have missed the controversy that always seems to surround TV Addons and the antics of its owner, Adam Lackman.  In recent history there have been a number of high profile  repo “hacks” and if you think back a little further, there was the DDOS hidden in the popular Exodus add-on. TV Addons Hack & Virus History Exodus DDOS “bot” So if you dont recall TV Addons hugely popualr Exodus add-on had some code added to it to DDOS attack. This was in response to a clone or fork of the addon that TVA took exception against. This seems rather bizarre given the amount of forks that are flying around now! Here is a link to that article. Exodus Botnet We did remove a lot of the post – but heres some links showing the code and how it was added; Exodus DDOS code Target of DDOS TVA & Indigo Repo Hijacks So lets review the repo hijacks – hotly denied, but who else has a v...

Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard! Archive Logins Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so) Android Apps A few additional apps have been added...

Project Cypher

This is an add on thats been around for a while, with a mix of content, mostly that I haven’t used to be honest, but its recently started to produce some good live streams with I think makes it worthy of recommending. I worked through some of the content this morning and there is a mix of stuff, but of real interest to me personally is the quality of the live links. The other content such as Lingerie Football and Lingerie Fighting is unique to the add on (AFAIK), plus there plenty of horror under the “dark side” link and Serial Killer content too, should that be your thing. Installing Project Cypher Click File Manager Double Click Add source Type this EXACTLY http://repo.run/cypherrepo/ Name the source, Project Cypher Return to the Kodi Home Screen Click System Click Add ons Click install from zip file Click Project Cypher Source Click Project Cypher zip file Wait for “add on enabled” notification Project Cypher Content The long list of live sports lin...

WiFi Settings & Tweaks

I thought I’d cover the one of the most talked about issues in the world of streaming and thats WiFi and how to get the best out of it, practical measures and not some of the voodoo you read on some forums! What is WIFi? The term Wi-Fi refers specifically to the IEEE 802.11 set of standards for wireless networks. Several different standards are designated by a letter suffix on the 802.11, such as in 802.11g or 802.11n. In general all of the 802.11 standards operate on either a 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio frequency. 5GHz has much greater speed capability but a reduced range; generally speaking the lower a frequency the further it will travel, so don’t expect miracles if you switch to 5GHz. A key thing to note here is that if ANY device uses the older “b” standard then ALL devices *could* have their speed reduced to 11mbps on “g” networks, depending on your router. This really applies to older equipment or cheap equipment with old parts used in it *cough* t...
