Super Favourites

This is not new and its amiss of me not to have added this sooner, but I started digging into a few things to do some advanced topics later and well, never realised the true potential of this add on; its always been on my “to do ” list and i have a feeling that despite Exodus not allowing its use, that SF will be used a lot more with the TV Portal release of its custom EPG app. You may have heard of the author, Spoyser, former lead ‘droid dev for team Kodi, so you know this is a solid stable addon.

What Is Super Favourites?

In a nutshell Super Favourites allows you to create you own custom Super-Add on with all the best bits of all your favourite add ons (with a few exceptions), along with the bits of Kodi that you use the most. In it’s simplest use case Super Favourites, acts very similar to the standard Kodi favourites in that you add items to it (in a couple of ways, see later), and can then view them in one easy to use list.

However, whereas Kodi favourites is simply a flat list of items, Super Favourites allows a hierarchical structure, of “Super Folders” into which you can add items, e.g. you could have a folder called Movies, Movies 3D, or Cartoons containing cartoon add ons, another called The Wife in which you put items that the wife used most often, another called live TV Streams, etc etc

Installing Super Favourites

This is a Kodi approved addon so is available from the default repo so very simple to install.

super favourites enabled

OK, thats the basic install, I just want to cover a few settings, although the scope for SF is huge – it will take some time to play around with and the builders will no doubt find this useful for custom widgets etc.

A few things…

First things is to enable the Super Favourite global menu system – so you can access from anywhere in Kodi.

super favourite global menu You will note looking through settings there are a ton of options and twiddles, many of which I have to be honest and say I am yet to fully explore, so expect an advanced article in the future…

Custom Folders

The really nice immediate function of SF is to create multiple custom folders and out them *outside* of kodi – so doing  fresh start doesn’t erase them; here you can see I created mine in my local Dropbox folder – meaning its backed up into the cloud automatically.

Now you can create a custom selection of folders;

If you have favourites already in Kodi you also have a function to copy them across, or for more advanced users, you can edit the xml files directly for bulk transfers.

f4mTester-What is it and do I need it ?

f4mTester What, Where and Why ? The What :  F4mTester was created by the developer Shani, (you may remember the now dead Zen Add-on) where it was placed in their Repo as a dependency. In a nutshell, f4mTester decodes various types streaming video files. That includes HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) and Real-Time Media Flow Protocol (RTMFP) streams that are displayed in media players, including Kodi. When you open a streaming video in your media player, it needs to be decoded to view. The F4M manifest file helps your media player understand and decode the video stream. Since this file contains info about the stream, f4mTester helps Kodi read those F4M files and decode them in a way that makes sense. So simply put, f4mTester locates the F4M files and helps Kodi display the live streams that you want to watch. Without it, many live streaming Kodi addons would not work or would have serious issues displaying a large amount of content.     The Where:  Normally, we would have...

WiFi Settings & Tweaks for Kodi

I thought I’d cover the one of the most talked about issues in the world of streaming and thats WiFi and how to get the best out of it, practical measures and not some of the voodoo you read on some forums! What is WIFi? The term Wi-Fi refers specifically to the IEEE 802.11 set of standards for wireless networks. Several different standards are designated by a letter suffix on the 802.11, such as in 802.11g or 802.11n. In general all of the 802.11 standards operate on either a 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio frequency. 5GHz has much greater speed capability but a reduced range; generally speaking the lower a frequency the further it will travel, so don’t expect miracles if you switch to 5GHz. A key thing to note here is that if ANY device uses the older “b” standard then ALL devices *could* have their speed reduced to 11mbps on “g” networks, depending on your router. This really applies to older equipment or cheap equipment with old parts used in it *cough* t...
