Kodi Advanced Settings Pt 2

This is the second part of The Advanced Settings XML article, in this follow up post I want to cover a few extra items.

  • Skip Loop Filter

  • Package Folder SIze

  • Remote Delay

  • Remote Repeat

Specifcally the first is for Amazons Firestick and reduces the overhead on the GPU by removing some “unseen” frames from the video stream.

Skip Loop Filter

  • Click Programs

  • Click Easy Advanced Settings

  • Click Edit Settings

  • Click Audio/video playback settings

easy advanced settings, skiploop filter

Access blocked websites

  • Click Skiploopfilter

  • Click 8

easy advanced settigns, skiploopfilter, firestick

  • You can back up to the twice and hit Write XML file

Package Folder Size

You’ll hear this a lot “purge packages”; so lets explain, packages are the zips Kodi downloads to install your add-ons. Kodi keeps them in case you want to roll back from an upgrade. However, they mostly just use up storage space. They have no connection to buffering, nor speed, nor performance, another often touted myth!

We can remove the need to do this monthly clean up by simply setting a fixed size for the folder and Kodi will keep it in check.

its worth noting that Kodi defaults to 200mb folder size, so you can make it smaller if your struggling for space on older kit, I’ve opted to increase things slightly to give us options to roll back in the event of a “bad” update, or one that annoys you (like the removal of download options in Genesis!)

  • Click Programs

  • Click Easy Advanced Settings

  • Click Edit Settings

  • Click Filesystem Settings – Enter 400 (this is MB btw)

  • Click Done

package folder size

  • You can back up to the twice and hit Write XML file

Remote Delay & Remote Repeat

These two may need some playing with; you will have experienced that annoying key bounce – press once get 2 or 3 characters, or you barely touch the button and get 10 characters – grrr! These options allow you to tinker and smooth out those glitches.

  • Click Programs

  • Click Easy Advanced Settings

  • Click Edit Settings

  • Click remote control settings

kodi advanced settings

  • Click remotedelay – enter 50

  • Click done

  • Click remoterepeat – enter 800

  • Click done

easy advanced settings, write xml

  • You can back up to the twice and hit Write XML file

That’s it for this section, I hope that’s helped demystify a few things and improved your Kodi experience.

TV Addons - Crypto Mining Hack

If you have been using Kodi third party addons for any length of time, you cannot have missed the controversy that always seems to surround TV Addons and the antics of its owner, Adam Lackman.  In recent history there have been a number of high profile  repo “hacks” and if you think back a little further, there was the DDOS hidden in the popular Exodus add-on. TV Addons Hack & Virus History Exodus DDOS “bot” So if you dont recall TV Addons hugely popualr Exodus add-on had some code added to it to DDOS attack. This was in response to a clone or fork of the addon that TVA took exception against. This seems rather bizarre given the amount of forks that are flying around now! Here is a link to that article. Exodus Botnet We did remove a lot of the post – but heres some links showing the code and how it was added; Exodus DDOS code Target of DDOS TVA & Indigo Repo Hijacks So lets review the repo hijacks – hotly denied, but who else has a v...

Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard! Archive Logins Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so) Android Apps A few additional apps have been added...

Project Cypher

This is an add on thats been around for a while, with a mix of content, mostly that I haven’t used to be honest, but its recently started to produce some good live streams with I think makes it worthy of recommending. I worked through some of the content this morning and there is a mix of stuff, but of real interest to me personally is the quality of the live links. The other content such as Lingerie Football and Lingerie Fighting is unique to the add on (AFAIK), plus there plenty of horror under the “dark side” link and Serial Killer content too, should that be your thing. Installing Project Cypher Click File Manager Double Click Add source Type this EXACTLY http://repo.run/cypherrepo/ Name the source, Project Cypher Return to the Kodi Home Screen Click System Click Add ons Click install from zip file Click Project Cypher Source Click Project Cypher zip file Wait for “add on enabled” notification Project Cypher Content The long list of live sports lin...

Kodi Audio Settings: Understanding the Options Available

Advanced Audio Settings The object of this Blog is to provide as much Information about the Audio Settings in Kodi/SPMC with out making it look like the Tech Specs. of an “Audiophiles” Sound System. I have to admit when I first looked in XBMC/Kodi, these options left me scratching my head. Thinking these are very complicated. Well they still do ! But once the different features and options were explained to me, it became quite easy. Understanding how to utilize these to enhance my use of Kodi/SPMC became a bit clearer. I certainly hope this article will do the same. Not just for those who have just started using Kodi, but for “veterans” as well who wish to know more about these settings. *Hint, if you make a mistake (and you will) when changing any settings, remember….Default is your friend.
