Ares Wizard Backup System Activated

If you got snarled in the URL Resolver bad update and wrecked your install you will certainly have the pain of a fresh install etched in your mind. You may have missed this on the last Ares Wizard update, but the back up system has now been activated.

You can access this from the main menu where the button has been for a while now but not functional.

Ares Wizard Backup

ares wizard backup option

You can see the many options you have with this tool for complete or partial backups as required. This has some hidden gems lurking, as well as the obvious visible options listed such as keymaps, library, sources and even your advanced settings file (if you plan on fettling with it!)

Full System Backup

If you select the full backup option, the Ares Wizard can do a few clever things for you; ( be sure your set the destination folder for you backup before proceeding here)

ares wizard backup intelligent files skip

Once you select “Full backup” and hit “Make Backup” the Ares Wizard backup system prompts you to skip unneeded files, like packages, thumbs and log files. This is a much better system than any I’ve seen thus far, as its skipping a lot of junk without the end user having to do this themselves. I’m sure builders are familiar with the process of “stripping down” before making a backup, but this is the first “end user” one I’ve seen that does this.

Not only dies it skip files, it will tell you what got skipped;

Now assuming your going to fresh start or something similar, Ares Wizard backup will now prompt you;

ares wizard backup system prompts for zip

So you can download the zip prior to a rebuild and simply do an install from zip to reinstate the wizard, a nice touch I thought.

Summary

A great and versatile backup tool for Kodi users, making things easier for the beginners who wouldnt know to clear thumbs and packages before making a backup.

It has only one flaw I can see and that’s a lack of sequential backups. When you make a new backup it overwrites the the file made previously. The only way to counter this is renaming the backup.zip file manually after making a backup. I have flagged this with the author, so we may see this updated soon?

FireTV/Stick Easy Kodi Installs

You will no doubt be aware that since the  5.0.5.1_user_537175520 update, Firestarter was disabled (I hope to have a patched version shortly) and Amazon now show Kodi in the recent options (though strangely this worked on my FireTV box but NOT the Firestick – updates to follow. Its also not gone unnoticed that for some “strange” reason you cant click the download options if you browse to the Kodi downloads page – I mean really? There is no doubt the Amazon are engaged in “active disruption” to users trying to load Kodi. This post will show you how to get around this and save links for later use should you need it. What you will need We still do this with ES File Explorer (ESFE), just using a different method, if you already have ESFE installed skip to the “Installing Kodi” section. I stongly recommend you get the FireTV app on your phone to make entering the info easier, The mouse function will also make it easier to navigate in ESFE which is ugly with the standard controller. Project Cypher

This is an add on thats been around for a while, with a mix of content, mostly that I haven’t used to be honest, but its recently started to produce some good live streams with I think makes it worthy of recommending. I worked through some of the content this morning and there is a mix of stuff, but of real interest to me personally is the quality of the live links. The other content such as Lingerie Football and Lingerie Fighting is unique to the add on (AFAIK), plus there plenty of horror under the “dark side” link and Serial Killer content too, should that be your thing. Removing Old/ Non-Working Add-ons & Repositories

Removing Old Add-ons/Repositories Removing Add-ons and Repositories that no longer function is a natural progression of our theme directed towards new users to Kodi. As we all know, sometimes an Add-on or a Repository will cease to function for no fault of our own. But what is the best way to remove these? We will provide you the easiest method to remove an individual Add-on as well as the associated Repository. In addition we’ll also show you how to remove any URL Sources in File Manager. Why Removing Add-ons/Repos is Important While it appears the advice concerning repositories is factual and from reliable sources, you may have by mistake installed a Repo/ Add-on that may be malicious or may be using addons that are not from reliable sources. A perfect example is this excellent article concerning Kodil-Exodus-Indigo Blog. As a result, these should be removed as soon as possible. Lets start with a single Add-on. Removing Add-ons First step after opening Kodi is to Click Add-0ns .
