What is the cause of your devices issues?

The cause of your devices current issues is that the Android Operating System has recently started pushing out Software updates for various devices. This also means that that Android App Store (Google Playstore)  was updated your and Android Services (Google Play services)will need to be updated so that it can keep everything in sync and running smoothly.

Description of Play Services

Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play.
This component provides core functionality like authentication to your Google services, synchronized contacts, access to all the latest user privacy settings, and higher quality, lower-powered location based services.

Google Play services also

  • Enhances your app experience.

  • It speeds up offline searches,

  • Provides more immersive maps,

  • Improves gaming experiences.

  • Apps may not work if you uninstall Google Play services.

Why are other apps on my device showing errors ‘app stopped working’

As many of the apps already installed on your device won’t have been updated when your app store did they now need Play Services help to Update them.

How can you fix the problems?

To fix your devices issues you need to manually force your Google Play Services to update.  Don’t worry this isn’t as complicated as it sounds.

  • Find Play Services app on the list

  • Tap on Play Services

  • Then tap on Storage

  • Press Force Stop the Play Services App

  • Unplug or Power down your device for a few minutes

  • Reboot device and go to your Playstore

  • Update any Apps that are listed as needing updates

Your device should now be running smoothly again.

For Android Mobile Phones that have received a Major Software Update

For Android Smartphones you may want to take one more step to ensure that everything has updated.

As Android Smart phones have extra functions on top of running Apps they can still have a few nagging issues. These are due to some of the other device services also needing to be forced to update so they can run on the new version of software.

The Best way to optimise your device after updates to help it run smoothly is to enter recovery mode on your device and wipe the cache partition of your device then Reboot device.

Why does the device need to be in recovery mode?

Android recovery mode allows you to boot Android devices into a dedicated recovery console for performing advanced recovery and maintenance tasks. You will find all the device specific instructions for Most Major Devices this  Guide to entering Recovery mode on Major devices

What is Android Recovery Mode

The Android Recovery Mode is a lightweight program that sits in an alternate bootable partition. This recovery mode is separate from the main Android OS. Android Recovery Mode purpose is to provide special tools for running maintenance and troubleshooting.

Accessing recovery mode is not an everyday affair and this mode is only meant to be used when you have the need to perform certain tasks on the device.  Some of these tasks include installing OS updates, apps from the computer or an SD card, and clearing cached files. The recovery mode can also be used for factory resetting Android when the issue proves to be difficult to troubleshoot.

Recovery Mode Options

Once you boot your device into recovery mode, you will have a range of options to choose from. These options may vary a bit depending on the device but they generally include the following.

  • Reboot now:   Choose this option to restart the device in normal mode.

  • Apply update from ADB:   This option is mostly used by Android developers who can use the Android Debug Bridge to plug an Android device into a PC and run commands from there.

  • Wipe data/factory reset:  Choosing this option will wipe out all data on your device including photos, music, apps, and practically everything, so make sure that you backup your Android device before going with this option.

  • Wipe cache partition:   The cache stores temporary files that can be safely deleted without losing any personal data or settings.

  • Reboot bootloader:   Used to root your device.

  • Power down:   Shuts down the device.

  • View Recovery logs.

Once your device is in recovery mode you will only need 2 of these options.

1)You will scroll down to Wipe Cache Partition > Click on it and confirm you want to do it.

2)Then Scroll back up to> Reboot device > Click on it and confirm.

1 ∼ Wipe cache partition

You cannot delete wipe cache partition the same way you would application cache as they are different. Cache Partition are temporary files used in application installation; and, thus, do not hold personal data. So this means no data is deleted when you choose wipe cache partition. However, they can sometime make the phone not work properly, so you can wipe them from “Recovery mode”.

2 ∼ Reboot Device

This will Restart your device back out of recovery mode and back  into normal mode.

In Conclusion

One of the reasons I felt I had to write this blog was that I have seen a few ‘Guides to fixing these issues’ that are worrying.  There are a few ‘Fixes’ instructing users to Uninstall their Google Play Store and Play Services ten download a different Version they supply links too. DO NOT DO THIS!!  Uninstalling your playstore should always be a very last resort if you have serious device issues. Also there is guidelines to follow as to which Version of playstore and play services you replace them with which are device specific.  One size does not fix all. If you have any other issues or questions you can feel free to come join us on our support forum and we will be happy to help.  Also make sure to visit http://www.best-kodi-guides.eu/android-apps/ for more guides to your android device.

Kodi Advanced Settings Pt 2

This is the second part of The Advanced Settings XML article, in this follow up post I want to cover a few extra items. Skip Loop Filter Package Folder SIze Remote Delay Remote Repeat Specifcally the first is for Amazons Firestick and reduces the overhead on the GPU by removing some “unseen” frames from the video stream. Skip Loop Filter Click Programs Click Easy Advanced Settings Click Edit Settings Click Audio/video playback settings Click Skiploopfilter Click 8 You can back up to the twice and hit Write XML file Package Folder Size You’ll hear this a lot “purge packages”; so lets explain, packages are the zips Kodi downloads to install your add-ons. Kodi keeps them in case you want to roll back from an upgrade. However, they mostly just use up storage space. They have no connection to buffering, nor speed, nor performance, another often touted myth! We can remove the need to do this monthly clean up by simply setting a fixed size for the fo...

Super Favourites

This is not new and its amiss of me not to have added this sooner, but I started digging into a few things to do some advanced topics later and well, never realised the true potential of this add on; its always been on my “to do ” list and i have a feeling that despite Exodus not allowing its use, that SF will be used a lot more with the TV Portal release of its custom EPG app. You may have heard of the author, Spoyser, former lead ‘droid dev for team Kodi, so you know this is a solid stable addon. What Is Super Favourites? In a nutshell Super Favourites allows you to create you own custom Super-Add on with all the best bits of all your favourite add ons (with a few exceptions), along with the bits of Kodi that you use the most. In it’s simplest use case Super Favourites, acts very similar to the standard Kodi favourites in that you add items to it (in a couple of ways, see later), and can then view them in one easy to use list. However, whereas Kodi favourites is simply a...

Project Cypher

This is an add on thats been around for a while, with a mix of content, mostly that I haven’t used to be honest, but its recently started to produce some good live streams with I think makes it worthy of recommending. I worked through some of the content this morning and there is a mix of stuff, but of real interest to me personally is the quality of the live links. The other content such as Lingerie Football and Lingerie Fighting is unique to the add on (AFAIK), plus there plenty of horror under the “dark side” link and Serial Killer content too, should that be your thing. Installing Project Cypher Click File Manager Double Click Add source Type this EXACTLY http://repo.run/cypherrepo/ Name the source, Project Cypher Return to the Kodi Home Screen Click System Click Add ons Click install from zip file Click Project Cypher Source Click Project Cypher zip file Wait for “add on enabled” notification Project Cypher Content The long list of live sports lin...

What is Failure Level in Death Streams Scraper List.

What is FL or Failure Level What FL specifically stands for is “Failure Level”. When a scraper’s FL value exceeds the FL threshold in settings, the scraper will be automatically disabled.  But only if “Automatically Disable Ineffective Scrapers” is set to “On” or trigger a disable prompt if it is set to “Prompt”. Death Streams, a Fork of  S.A.L.T.S. (Stream All The Sources) has thankfully decided to continue the use of this amazing Video Add-on. Originally developed by tk.norris it soon became a very unique Add-on to use. Primarily on how the end user was able to configure the Settings to their personal use. Due to the amount of time required to Maintain and Update an Add-on the Dev (tk.norris) decided to cease looking after Salts and move on to other Life Adventures. Unfortunately the new Dev also found this a daunting undertaking consequently forcing him to step away from the add-on. Mr. Blamo, in order to prevent failu...
