Changing the Movie Icon Size in Krypton/Jarvis

icon

What is a Movie Icon ?

Movie Icon is a general term used to describe the Fan-art of a Movie/TV Show in a Video Add-on. Such as Placenta, Elysium or Death Streams to name a few. Many also call it Thumbnails because it is a small version of a Poster of a Movie/TV Show. All Devs utilize these Icons to give those using their Add-ons a visual aid of what each Movie/TV Show appears as.

So you sit down with the Family to watch a movie. But wouldn’t it be nice to just see what movies there are in a larger Icon like you seen in a Poster. Especially for the little ones who can’t read but certainly recognize a Favorite Character of theirs. To be honest even some the “Older Kids” eyesight could use a break from squinting I’m sure, present company included.
Here are a few easy steps that will allow you to view a Icon or enable Thumbnail view.
For this article a “clean” version of Krypton 17.3 was used with the Estuary Skin. Jarvis 16.1 version was used with the Pulse Build and Xonfluence Skin. Death Streams was the add-on used and to stay consistent, Guardians Of The Galaxy was the Movie.

Where and How to Change Icon size

Normally this is what is shown whenever you open a Movies section in most add-ons. I have made a split screen of both Krypton and Jarvis versions of Kodi for all of the following descriptions. This will make it easier for everyone to follow, but more because I’m just to lazy to make another blog.  As you can see in both examples, there is no Visual Description of the Movies available. This can be changed by doing the following :
  • Krypton- Moving the Cursor to the far left of the screen (1.) or clicking the options Icon (2.)

  • Jarvis- Same method, moving the cursor or by clicking on the area as indicated by the Arrow above.

As a result, you now have a new window with a number of options. While these may appear to be different, they are in fact almost exactly the same. Only the description has been changed. View List is where we want to change the Icon size, the other options are self explanatory. Simply click anywhere in the highlighted area as indicated by the Arrow, until you find the desired Icon you like.

Available Icon Views

icon

Both A & B show the most popular and commonly used Icon view “Thumbnail”. This provides a complete view of the Movie/TV Show listings consequently allowing all ages to see and understand what is listed before them. This is very convenient with small children who are unable to read and understand the text. Show them a Photo of their favorite character and they’ll probably tell you what they wish to see.

icon

Perhaps you would prefer to see a brief description for each Movie/TV Show Icon. Due to the amount movies available to watch, it would be nice to read a bit about the Plot. That can be achieved by selecting View:Low List.

Jarvis Solution

icon

Occasionally a Jarvis Build using the Xonfluence skin may not show the Arrow used to access the Icon View list. Rather than leaving it as is, here’s an easy solution :
  1. Select System.

  2. Appearance.

  3. Skin, then Settings.

  4. In General settings (1.), move the cursor to the right and click either up or down arrow until you see Media View settings. (2.)

  5. Enable kiosk mode- click anywhere in the highlighted area to Disable (3.)

IN CONCLUSION

Changing the Movie Icon view is a personal choice, why is entirely up to you. But there are many benefits such as those with Visual Disabilities, small children as mentioned earlier. Or maybe the TV set is just located to far away. So, as we have said before, in order to “set” any changes made kodi must be rebooted before proceeding any further. Guide to Installing Kodi: Beginner's Edition

Kodi, A Guide for New Users This next article is going to be an all-in-one guide on how to set up Kodi from where to find it to how to install an add-on. This guide will serve to partner with the theme of creating helpful articles for the everyday, new Kodi user. We will focus on keeping the language understandable and hope this article helps teach you something new. By the end of this article we will have answered the what, where, and how to install Kodi, along with a repository, and an add-on. You may or may not be aware; however, the community is ever changing especially in the recent 12 months. More and more developers and groups have been shut down, received cease & desist letters, or have grown frustrated by treatment from other community members.  This has made it tougher to find the reliable all-in-one build as your go-to builder could hang it all up.  So our goal is for this guide to help you sit in the driver seat. The What As we said we are going to tackle a lit...

Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard! Archive Logins Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so) Android Apps A few additional apps have been added...

Deleting Old non-working URL's from File Manager

Deleting URL’s from File Manager We have all used the File Manager in Kodi to install different URL’s for various links to Repositories or Add-ons.  Links become redundant for a number or reasons; however, the most common reason is abandonment by the developer.  A perfect example is the TVA Fusion link, it became invalid and the link will no longer connect. Why remove the url links ? Keeping these URL links installed in File Manager is harmless, but keeping the file manager uncluttered is never a bad habit.  Some of you may have typed the wrong url address by mistake.  Instead of removing it right away, you just re-type the correct url address.  I know how easy that is having done that myself on occasion.  As a result, you have many duplicate sources in your File Manager section. The removal method is exactly the same for Jarvis & Krypton.  Yet, I have combined photo examples for both just so you can follow along.  While I was...

TV Addons - Crypto Mining Hack

If you have been using Kodi third party addons for any length of time, you cannot have missed the controversy that always seems to surround TV Addons and the antics of its owner, Adam Lackman.  In recent history there have been a number of high profile  repo “hacks” and if you think back a little further, there was the DDOS hidden in the popular Exodus add-on. TV Addons Hack & Virus History Exodus DDOS “bot” So if you dont recall TV Addons hugely popualr Exodus add-on had some code added to it to DDOS attack. This was in response to a clone or fork of the addon that TVA took exception against. This seems rather bizarre given the amount of forks that are flying around now! Here is a link to that article. Exodus Botnet We did remove a lot of the post – but heres some links showing the code and how it was added; Exodus DDOS code Target of DDOS TVA & Indigo Repo Hijacks So lets review the repo hijacks – hotly denied, but who else has a v...
