Ares Wizard - Retro Gaming

The Ares Wizard has had a few upgrades to bring more of what users demand, easy android installs and retro gaming being sought by many, so grab yourself a game controller and prepare to transform your android boxes in a few clicks, retro gaming is now on the Ares Wizard!

Archive Logins


Just before we delve into those updates, I also wanted to point out that Mr Dobson has figured out how to log into Archive via Kodi – this may make your eyes glaze over, so I’ll be brief; the high demand builds hosted on Archive recently hit a problem, where Archive forced logins to download – normally something of a bind from android boxes. Well if you create any account (even if you don’t actually use it) this login can be entered and this allows downloads from Archive – Ares is the ONLY Wizard to be able to do this. (take note Ares does NOT store this info, so you will have to key it in each time you are prompted to do so)


Android Apps


A few additional apps have been added too, llike Kodi 16.1, SPMC, ESFE, etc and more are planned so keep an eye on this section as more updates will be added as they are tested.


Retro Gaming


I tested this on an Amazon Fire TV (non root) to prove it will work on almost anything, although I am told some games will need root in future updates, so lookout for those if you have a rooted device.


If you don’t have the Ares Wizard you can follow this guide and then follow the rest of this guide.


  • Start Ares Wizard

  • Click Browse Addons

The install process for games is the same – install the emulator then the ROM pack. The others apps are simpler – but each app requires you to authorise on your device.


  • Click Genesis Emulator – (the download dialogue will come up)

  • Click Yes

  • Click Install

(this looks slightly different as I had already installed to test)

  • You will be returned to Ares Wizard

  • Click OK

  • Click Genesis ROM pack

  • Follow the prompts

  • Click OK

Now you will need to exit Ares Wizard


  • Click Close

When you return to Kodi you will see new entries in the program section

A collection of games in the pack will be listed;

Follow the same 2 stage process for the SNES and any other game packs that are added in forthcoming updates… You WILL need a game controller to play these games and they may need configuring using the EMU options included.

Deleting Old non-working URL's from File Manager

Deleting URL’s from File Manager We have all used the File Manager in Kodi to install different URL’s for various links to Repositories or Add-ons.  Links become redundant for a number or reasons; however, the most common reason is abandonment by the developer.  A perfect example is the TVA Fusion link, it became invalid and the link will no longer connect. Why remove the url links ? Keeping these URL links installed in File Manager is harmless, but keeping the file manager uncluttered is never a bad habit.  Some of you may have typed the wrong url address by mistake.  Instead of removing it right away, you just re-type the correct url address.  I know how easy that is having done that myself on occasion.  As a result, you have many duplicate sources in your File Manager section. Ares Wizard for Kodi - Updated .69 ( new sources added)

You may well have heard of the legal threats made to the Ares Project (more on this in another article) however, in the meantime we have edited the “contentious” content to avoid further legal harrasment. The Ares Wizard no longer has links to builds or add-ons. It still has one of the best Kodi video cache tools (the first in the scene to do this dynamically per device), and the best backup and restore tool. You can backup any build for safe keeping,  ut you can also restore ANY build zip using Ares restore option – it will auto detect the any full build restores (eg the skin settings) and perform a force close to ensure a proper and full restore. The Wizard must be a huge install? Just to reassure users of the Ares Wizard – its a very light install – the zip 2.5 megabytes and fully installed with all graphics etc is a mere 4.5 megabytes.
