FireTV/Stick Easy Kodi Installs

You will no doubt be aware that since the  5.0.5.1_user_537175520 update, Firestarter was disabled (I hope to have a patched version shortly) and Amazon now show Kodi in the recent options (though strangely this worked on my FireTV box but NOT the Firestick – updates to follow.

Its also not gone unnoticed that for some “strange” reason you cant click the download options if you browse to the Kodi downloads page – I mean really? There is no doubt the Amazon are engaged in “active disruption” to users trying to load Kodi. This post will show you how to get around this and save links for later use should you need it.

What you will need

We still do this with ES File Explorer (ESFE), just using a different method, if you already have ESFE installed skip to the “Installing Kodi” section. I stongly recommend you get the FireTV app on your phone to make entering the info easier, The mouse function will also make it easier to navigate in ESFE which is ugly with the standard controller.

Set the Developer Options

firetv dev options

This will allow us to install Kodi later without having to jump back and set this anyway. Ok, next we need ESFE.

Install ES File Explorer

This is really simple – you will find this in the Apps section – top free, scroll to the right and it will be there. Its listed as the 8th app here… although i can’t guarantee this on yours – but it WILL be there, somewhere.

You deregistered? No account? – No problem – make and account online (its important to do this in a browser, use this link to create a fake id, complete with email address and credit card – (and no, its not real, but it will get you the free apps that amazon block without an account). Its worth noting that the email address can be activated and used.

Installing Kodi

OK we would normally use the mysearch option in ESFE, search for Kodi downloads and look for the arm link – but you will have noticed this has stopped working – more work by Amazon to try and stop you using Kodi! – however, we have a way round this. We are going to use bit.ly links to directly access the Kodi apk files and neatly sidestep Amazon blocking tactics. Let me show you how to do this…

Scroll down to bookmarks and navigate to the “+ New” option ( i have marked this in the image below and also in true “Blue Peter” style, marked the one i made earlier.

esfe bookmarks fire tv

This will pop up a new window thus;

esfe bookmark

You can see i have entered the bit.ly link i created to test this out. I have added 3 links here for ease – but you can easily create your own, if you wish.

Enter the link version of your choice and click OK. You will see the screen below (minus the options in the lower left corner) navigate to the three dots “more” option and click to reveal the options you can see in the image below –

I have highlighted the “add to favourite” so you can save this for future reference, then click “open in browser”

Once you select the open in browser option you will be greeted with this screen – select ES Downloader – ALWAYS option.

esfe download options

As soon as you click ALWAYS – the download will begin – no messing about clicking arm 300 times!

esfe downloading kodi

When the download completes, you can simply click the “Open file ” option to install Kodi.

install kodi from esfe

Thats it – Kodi is installed! If you saved the bookmark – if things FUBAR you can always wipe Kodi and put it back on easily. Its easy to make you own bit.ly links if you want other specific versions etc.

There are many Blogs and articles on the Internet about how to enable RD, but for a change this one will be about how to Enable RD in Krypton 18, Leia. While still in Alpha build, there are some interesting new features to view. But I would recommend waiting until Leia has been released in Beta before installing and trying to use. This was installed on a PC, W/10 for the ease of creating the screenshots needed. So lets begin : After opening Kodi Krypton 17 / Leia 18, select th...

Updating Your Add-ons and Repositories in Kodi

Updating Add-ons / Repositories Updating your list of Add-ons and Repositories is the best way to ensure Kodi is functioning properly. Rather than checking, many newcomers think it’s better to just Uninstall the Add-on/Repo and reinstall it again. Totally unnecessary for many reasons. Consider this, if your vehicle runs out of fuel, would you replace it with another of the same make and model ? Of course not, you would find a way to fill it with fuel and carry on. Therefore, updating the Add-ons/Repos is like refueling your vehicle. This is another topic in our continuing effort to help the newcomers/beginners to the world of Kodi. You can view many more Blogs on a wide assortment of helpful topics here at Ares-Project Blog . Updating Repositories Rather than send an update for a single add-on that may be in a repo, the Dev will send one for the entire repo. It faster, more convenient and above all it saves time. Yet how do you know if your repo is up to date? Here are two exampl...

Locating Lyric Icon What do I see ! the Krypton Music Player! Now in my defense, I don’t use th...

Kodi Dlna Client and Server Setup for Krypton

What is Dlna ? WHAT IS DLNA? The term DLNA stands for “Digital Living Network Alliance”. It is the industry standard for sharing network data combined with “Universal Plug and Play Audio Visual(UPnP). This option can be used to share your media libraries from one device to another. If you have a PC or Kodi Box for your Tv, you can share its media contents.  Other Smart TVs, Game Consoles, Phones, etc. to name a few. It is recommended that you backup Kodi before continuing in case you wish to restore your Kodi settings at a later date. A Kodi UPnP server/media can stream its content to other devices on the same network by using UPnP and DLNA protocols. HOW TO ENABLE DLNA ON KODI? For this article, I used a clean version of Krypton 17.6. If you are using a Build, this is typically found by selecting System, then System again. Lets begin: After opening Kodi, select the Cog Icon found in the top left corner. Then Select Service Settings top row far right in...
